Viva la vita dolce! Welcome renowned Italian guest conductor Alvise Casellati as he leads the Reno Phil Orchestra and Chorus in an unforgettable concert full of sumptuous works form legenedary Italian composers. The oh-so-familiar notes from Rossini’s William Tell will evoke memories of Bugs Bunny and the Lone Ranger, while a medley of offerings from Verdi will transport you to an Italian opera house. Be prepared for an extraordinary evening!

  • Rossini’s Overture from William Tell features one of the most famous musical passages of all time: the melody used as the theme to the classic radio and TV western The Lone Ranger.
  • Ponchielli’s Danze delle Ore (Dance of the Hours) might sound familiar to those that have seen the Disney animated film Fantasia, where the music scores a comic ballet with ostriches, hippos, elephants, and alligators. The work’s melody was also used for Allan Sherman’s hit “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)”.
  • Verdi’s third opera, Nabucco, thrust the young composer to international fame, and features the work Va pensiero (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) – one of the best known numbers in opera. Va pensiero is still often performed as an encore in opera houses.
  •  La Traviata is based on the play La Dame aux Camelias, a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas.
